Probably one of the hardest things to me in my years candle making has been the wicking of a candle. Not that it is hard to wick a candle I burn, but the difficult part to me is trying to decide how YOU are going to burn your candle!!
Are you going to be a power burner like me and burn it from maybe 6:00 in the morning til 11:00 at night? Or are you going to do like I have heard some say. Light it, burn maybe an hour - just until you smell it good - and then put it out.
Well the correct way to burn your candle, be it a jar candle or a pillar candle is approx 3-4 hours per diameter of your candle. If you are burning a 3" pillar then the "correct" way would be to burn it for 3-4 hrs, put the flame out, let it cool and then you can relight.
That is what the label on the bottom of your candle is going to tell you. WHAT?? You didn't know there were instructions on the bottom of your candle??? Sorry, I often wonder how many actually read them, I know I didn't when I bought candles!
But, if you only burn it for maybe an hour or so and then you put it out, then your candle is going to tunnel, that is burn just straight down the middle and you are going to be left with a lot of wax that never burns. You will also tell people "You know that candle I bought from ABC Candle Co? Well, it didn't burn worth a flip, I won't be buying anymore from them!"
So, read the label, burn your candle correctly and then let the candle-maker you bought it from know just how much you loved your candle.
Happy Burning!
