Hope everyone had a happy and safe New Year's Welcome! I have been busy this month trying to get caught up on paperwork and sorting through a stack of mail, mostly junk, knee high. Now I am 5'10" so you can imagine how high the stack was!! It is a never ending process.

Just thought I would update on some new additions. I have added 2 sizes of sample packs of my Smelly Cups. The mini cups hold approx 1 oz wax and you can order a 6 pack or a 12 pack. The 6 pack is $10.95, shipping included and the 12 pack is $15.95, shipping included. On your check-out form just select Customer Pick-Up and no postage is included. Below is a picture of the 12 sample pack and this is the link to order them http://www.rubyrosecandles.com/samplepacks.html<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mLB--3rvKKE/TxhjmS2Z56I/AAAAAAAAACs/QBBFt8dtLyQ/s1600/page6dzmelts.gif" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; The picture below is made with chunks of Sweet Pea & Ruby's Rose with a white overpour in Sweet Pea. This has really been popular so far. I think the chunks are prettier in a clear tumbler like this, they show up better. This is the link for my tumbler candle - http://www.rubyrosecandles.com/candlejars.html<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cMvqIQjKw3Q/TxhkaCRHV2I/AAAAAAAAAC0/wABerJm5zFg/s1600/page5tumck.gif" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; I have been trying to find something really new and maybe sophiscated sounding, like some of the "big" name candle companies I was reading about in my Gift & Decorative Accessories magazine. I know I really enjoyed mine, being with family and friends. Our big family Christmas this year was sad but joyful at the same time. We missed my sister but we just know that God let her, Mother, & Daddy just have a glimpse of us and we know they are happy & well!

I had a really good Christmas present, my hubby finally let me have a mantel for my fireplace! Nothing fancy, like I told the man that built it just Country Comfort! That's what my home is, spread on couch and on one side of my love seat for Pepper (dog), and sheet over spread in bedroom for Patches (cat)!!! Of course having my son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters for Christmas was wonderful!

I am just about through with a fundraiser I started after Christmas, just like cleaning the jars and labeling. Then have to clean shop again! I have done some touch-up to my website www.rubyrosecandles.com and edited my scent list http://www.rubyrosecandles.com/page4.html, removed quite a few of them but they can come back at any time! The new touch-ups and scent list will go up on the 1st.

I wish to thank all my customers for their support this year and I look forward to the new year. Wishing all a Safe and Happy New Year.

Just wanted to give you a quick update! Been busy with orders and trying to finish my Christmas shopping. Now it is time to get to cooking! Got to bake my fruitcake. I am a little late with it but this one doesn't need a lot of time to be delicious and moist. It is the best I have found. If you would like to try it yourself this is the recipe.
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
3 cups selfrising flour
4 eggs
1 cup milk or pineapple juice
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups chopped pecans
2 cups raisins
1 can (20oz) crushed pineapple undrained
1 16oz candied pineapple
1 16oz candied cherries
(NOTE* if you don't have all the candied fruit above you can used the mixed)
Chop fruits and nuts and roll in flour. Mix everythig together and add to nut/raisin mixture.
Bake at 250 for 3 hrs. (I bake mine in a tube pan)

Hoping to also get a Japanese Fruit Cake baked, it was my Daddy's favorite. Of course mine isn't as good as Mother's was but it is still pretty good! My main dish I always have to make for family gethering is my dressing. It is delicious! My family, the whole clan, will be celebrating on the 18th.

Just wanted to update everyone. Got 1 order to get out today and waiting for oil to come in to finish another. It is getting close to closing time for Ruby Rose. My last day will probably be the 16th and then will reopen on the 27th. The day after Christmas is always spent taking tree down and putting away everything.

Wishing everyone a Safe, Happy, & Merry Christmas. Let's all remember the reason for the season is the birth of our Lord Jesus!

Grama's & Grannies

Been needing to post but nothing would come to mind. I had promised myself that I was going to do better than I have in the past with a blog but-----

Grama-me, Granny-the other mother! I really do not know what children that work would do without us!! There was a time though neither of us could help. Granny worked to far away and my employer would not have let me off to run the necessary errands! Employers that don't have children, and especially grandchildren really do not realize how hard it is for parents this day & time.

Got a phone call this morning about quarter to 8 - " I hate to ask you this but---Randa left her book bag. Would you go to the house and get it and bring it to the office?" Well, what's a Grama to say? I told her to tell Randa it was going to cost her! Randa being the oldest and Lucy the youngest.

Left book bags, work books, sick child, dance lessons, and various other things they need cause both work and they don't get home until late. Daughter-in-law is a school teacher so at least we don't have to take the kids to school or pick them up. By kids of course I am talking about my precious, beautiful granddaughters! 10 & 8 but closer to 11 & 9!

Well, that about covers Grama and Granny duty, short writing but can be very time consuming! Just thankful that we are both free to help them out.

Guess I need to say something about my candle business. It is sorta slow right now, slower than in past years. Sometimes it worries me and then other times it doesn't. It gives me time to finish my Christmas shopping and just piddle. I am a great piddler, can do it all day and be so very tired and not have accomplished nothing cause I jump from one thing to the other!

Anyway, earlier this year I guess it was I changed from accepting payments through a card processing I guess you could call it to PayPal. I really like PayPal, you can use a check or credit/debit card and I really prefer to use my check when possible. But I wonder if that stops some customers from ordering. I have seen some post on a forum that they think so and have stopped using them. To me I found it was much cheaper for me than having to pay a company to process my orders and then payments had to go through a gateway to make it to your bank. It became very expensive because you had to pay both, even when orders were slow there was still a charge from both. Add that to pay-per-click advertising, internet access, insurance, and all the other odds & ends that a lot don't realize is a regular recurring charge and it get rather expensive.

Off course candle making is not a cheap hobby/business like I think some think it is when they start. They quickly find out just how expensive it can become with wax, containers, oils, and the other miscellaneous things that are necessary for candle making. At times shipping can cost as much as the product you order unless you can order in very large bulk and then you can save on shipping.

I see candle makers that do a lot of promoting on Facebook and I think I need to but then I am just not that creative to think up really good and "catchy" promotions so I don't. Oh well, age may play into it cause "I just ain't as young as I used to be"!!!!

Well, this turned into a rather lengthy post and probably you will get tired or reading before you get to the end of it!! Better close and try to catch up on some, no really a lot of bookkeeping and sorting mail I need to do. I have to do this for 3 - myself, hubby, & church so that can just about turn into a full time job. Only problem though there is no pay for it!!

Have a blessed and wonderful rest of week.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://rubyrosecandles.blogspot.com/2011/11/gramas-grannies.html' title='Grama's & Been busy trying to catch up on paper work. I have to do paper work for my business, my husbands business, and also my church. I could almost have a fulltime job just trying to stay on top of all that! I did paper work/bookkeeping for about 30 years and now I just hate to have to do it. Always let me pile up on me into very high stacks, desk is covered, so I finally have to start sorting through it and getting "stuff" posted!!

Got an email that said there were some new lay outs for Blogs so I will be trying them out. Don't know exactly what you tell you it will look like but I hope you will check it out. After I get through with it I will try to post and tell you more about it! But for now, got some bookkeeping I got to get done, you know, bills have to be paid!

This morning I am burning Welcome Home and I absolutely love it. It is nice and strong and I was able to smell it in my great room after maybe 30 minutes or so and for me to smell it with my candle-nose(that's what comes with making candles for so long) it is really strong, but does not over power you when you enter your room. Just gives you that nice comfy feeling! This is just some pictures of my candles. As you will see, I don't always remember the names of them when making labels!! The mark through is the Welcome Home that I am burning!

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Busy working on fundraiser and had to take 2 days off to format my computer, guess a "bug" or something attacked it! The weather is still very cool in the mornings and late night and great weather for burning my bakery and spicy scents! If you want to order any of my new scents just choose "unscented" and then write in the scent you want in space in shopping cart. Will try to get the new scents added as soon as I can but got to get finished with this fundraiser first!

I have added 1 new item though! It seems so many candle makers are using the portion cups for their tarts so I decided to add mine. They are called "SMELLY CUPS"! Remember the song from Friends???
The cups are 2ozs but they hold approx 1 & 1/2oz. of scented goodness! They sell for $1.65 each. You can burn them in any of the electric tart melters, including some of the "big" name candle companies! This is your picture:
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Not that it is hard to wick a candle I burn, but the difficult part to me is trying to decide how YOU are going to burn your candle!!

Are you going to be a power burner like me and burn it from maybe 6:00 in the morning til 11:00 at night? Or are you going to do like I have heard some say. Light it, burn maybe an hour - just until you smell it good - and then put it out.

Well the correct way to burn your candle, be it a jar candle or a pillar candle is approx 3-4 hours per diameter of your candle. If you are burning a 3" pillar then the "correct" way would be to burn it for 3-4 hrs, put the flame out, let it cool and then you can relight.

That is what the label on the bottom of your candle is going to tell you. WHAT?? You didn't know there were instructions on the bottom of your candle??? Sorry, I often wonder how many actually read them, I know I didn't when I bought candles!

But, if you only burn it for maybe an hour or so and then you put it out, then your candle is going to tunnel, that is burn just straight down the middle and you are going to be left with a lot of wax that never burns. You will also tell people "You know that candle I bought from ABC Candle Co? Well, it didn't burn worth a flip, I won't be buying anymore from them!"

So, read the label, burn your candle correctly and then let the candle-maker you bought it from know just how much you loved your candle.

Happy Burning!
http://www.rubyrosecandles.com/
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;
